Capturing
ScanStation Capturing Engine
supports both local and remote capture. In remote capturing model, ScanStation
could be connected by various network image devices, such as network scanner,
multifunction copier and fax server. The captured images and its attributes
could be sent to ScanStation from these devices.
In
local capturing model, ScanStation supports desktop scanners in all ranges, from
economic scanners of few pages per minute to high-end scanners of few hundreds
pages per minute. It could also support the high-end image processing hardware,
like Kofax card, so that the scanning quality and speed could be
maximized.
The feasible capturing architecture allows
ScanStation supporting not only centralized, but also distributed capturing
model. In the distributed capturing model, capturing workstations from remote
offices directly transfer the scanned images and attributes to the central
processing center over Internet or Intranet. All the captured images and
attributes will then be sent to the ScanStation Image Processing Engine for
image enhancement and classification.
Processing
In order to let the indexing
process to be carried out in a more effective or even automatic way, ScanStation
provides various image processing or enhancement features, such
as:
Indexing
Besides traditional indexing
mechanism, ScanStation offers collaborative indexing functions. In collaborative
indexing, indexing process could be carried out in a number of stages, and by
different operators in different indexing sites. The collaborative indexing
could better fit to the ever-changing business requirements, such as double
entry or information validation. In the past, the implementation of
collaborative indexing could be a complicated, long-time and costly project.
With ScanStation, the collaborative indexing could be implemented in a more
manageable cost effective and efficient way.
ScanStation supports both centralized and distributed indexing model. In
the centralized indexing model, all images will be processed by a single
ScanStation server. Indexing workstations could connect to the server over Local
Area Network. In distributed model, there could be a number of ScanStation
servers in different offices. Indexing workstations connect to a pre-defined
server for indexing, and indexed image and its attributes will be sent to the
other ScanStation server for next stage indexing or further
processing.
ScanStation offers a collection of
sophisticated indexing tools that automate and simplify the complexities of the
indexing logistic. Indexing tools highlights are as follows:
Image classification
Image prioritization
Eyeball indexing
Automatic image-profile mapping
Intelligent image separation
Dynamic indexing field loading
Maker / Checker (double entry)
Field and form level verification and validation
Redirecting
The fully indexed
and processed images and indexing value could be sent to various backend
systems by ScanStation Document Router, which provides not only a simple
redirection function, but also a highly customizable programming interface in
order to handle complex image redirection processes.
The ScanStation Document Router is designed to accommodate any
compatibility and connectivity issue with any backend systems, such as SQUARE,
or even the capturing queue of ScanStation for collaborative
indexing.
Customization
In addition to the standard and
out-of-the-box features, ScanStation offers a set of Application Programming
Interface (API). Developers could use the API to customize a system, which is
better fit to the business requirements. Below are some highlights of the
functionality the API could provide.
Embed business logic in the indexing process
Connect to the backend RDBMS
Access ScanStation internal information
Customize the user interface
